KanOkla Fur Company is a Fur Buyer wanting wild fur

Glen Johnson, owner of KanOkla Fur Company, is a leading Fur Buyer in the Kansas/Oklahoma region and across the United States. Fur harvesters receive top prices for wild fur such as bobcats, coyotes, coons, beavers, foxes, mink, and other furbearers.

KanOkla Fur Company, established in 1974 as a fur trader, is located on the Kansas/Oklahoma border in Hunnewell, Kansas. I have a Kansas, Oklahoma, and Texas Fur Buyers License and purchase many type of wild fur pelts, skins, and hides in various forms, such as raw, skinned, and stretched and dried. During the fur season the Hunnewell location, known as the fur shed, is open nearly every day for fur buying and handling by appointment. Please call for appointment before coming because KanOkla Fur Company is also a traveling fur buyer that makes periodic visits to Alva, Anthony, Altoona, and Woodward. See the Fur Routes for each location dates and times.

Hunters, trappers, and other fur buyers have found that I am a reliable fur trader. If you enjoy trapping, coyote hunting, coon hunting, or bobcat hunting plan to bring your pelts to KanOkla Fur Company and receive top dollar and the best fur prices. Proper fur handling is very important to all fur buyers and it can result in a better price. Fur handling starts at the trap site--furbearers trapped in the water should be rinsed clean of any mud or vegetation.

Trapping supplies are available at the Hunnewell, Kansas location. Cage traps in various sizes are commonly on hand; foothold traps, lures, assorted scents, and other supplies are available upon request. Trappers and animal damage control people frequently purchase the bobcat size cage trap with live bait holder. The skunk cage trap is also commonly purchased.

Fur Handling

You are better off selling it in the carcass than skinning it incorrectly. Skinning and stretching and drying fur incorrectly may decrease the value to zero.

Carcass (unskinned)
  • Clean dirt, blood, and burrs from the fur (may wash carcass fur, let drip dry)
  • Keep in cool dry place (if the weather is warm--freeze)
  • If fur is frozen, partially thaw before selling (place fur on a cement floor for 6-12 hours before selling) The fur should not be completely thawed.
  • If the weather is above 40 degrees do NOT thaw at all.

Green (skinned)
  • Skinned fur must be sold immediately or quickly frozen
  • Do NOT hang green fur
  • Never wash skinned fur (water on skin side will taint pelts
  • Keep larger animals with heavy flesh (coyote, raccoon, beaver, badger) 5-6 hours in a cool room or until partially thawed before selling
  • Keep smaller animals with light flesh (fox, muskrat, mink) 1-2 hours in cool room or until partially thawed before selling

Stretched and dried
  • Pelts must be scraped free of excess fat (Raccoons, beaver)
  • Stretch on proper wire or wood stretchers (Except beaver, which should be stretched in an oval shape)
  • Raccoon, muskrat, mink, opossum are stretched fur-side-in
  • Red fox, coyote, and bobcats are stretched fur-side-out
Be sure to call before you come, and don't thaw fur until you call.
